We hear a lot about how much obesity costs us as a country, but what about the individual costs? It not only affects your pocketbook, but your mental and physical health. We can now add one more to the list: The higher cost of flying.
United Airlines has taken the step of , stating that you must be able to fit into a single seat, be able to fasten the seatbelt with an extender and be able to put the armrests down. If you can’t, they’ll try to seat you next to an empty seat but, if there are no empty seats, you maybe have to purchase a second seat.
They aren’t the first airline to do this. Southwest has had a policy in place for for years while also requires passengers to buy a second seat if they don’t fit into the seat with the armrests down.
With obesity such a problem for many of us these days, we can only assume we’ll see more of this type of thing in the future. I think we can all agree that airplane seats are the most uncomfortable seats ever made, regardless of size, but what do you think about these kinds of policies? Should people of size have to buy a second seat? Vote in this week’s poll and leave a comment about your experiences.
