Can you count all the weight loss tips you know? How many of them actually work? Where did you find these tips? You have probably read about lots of interesting tips in the health and fitness magazines, in your online searches, and even your friends have told you great ways to lose weight, especially fat.

We all know the truth. Calories in should be less than calories out. We also know that fad diets, weight loss pills and supplements, and even that one more piece of exercise equipment really do not work. Yes, we can hold out hope that some day one of those really will work. But for now, let’s agree on the above. No need to lecture on what we already know.

Unfortunately, the weight loss industry is overflowing with myths and information that misleads us. Why? I would guess it is because that industry makes millions selling us hope. Also, people often misinterpret information and end up twisting the truth. Here is the truth about three common myths.

Myth #1: It is possible to spot reduce fat. NO, that is not possible. You cannot force only one part of your body to reduce. Working on only one area of your body often results in outcomes in other parts of your body you did not anticipate. For example, leg lifts and crunches actually burn muscle. rather than fat, below the belly. Give your entire body a great workout. Eat a healthy diet. These will speed up your metabolic rate and get that fat burning.

Myth #2: You can reduce body fat by drastically reducing your calorie intake. NOT true. Crash dieters believe this myth. Haven’t we all tried that – hoping to lose a little weight or fat before a big event? But when you starve your body, it reacts by going into starvation mode. When in this mode, you metabolism slows and you end up burning muscle to generate energy rather than fat. So muscle is lost and weight is regained after your crash.

Myth #3: Cardio exercises alone will help you lose weight. FALSE once more. Yes, cardio and aerobic exercises can help you lose fat, but you need to add weight lifting. Actually, weight lifting is better than both cardio and aerobics. Why? Because weight lifting helps your body burn fat not only during the workout, but also after the workout. That is great news!

So those three myths have been debunked. Now it is up to you to proceed on the right path. That would be healthy eating and weight lifting workouts. That combination will cause your body to lose weight by burning the fat.
