As I alluded to in an earlier post, you are either motivated to stay the same or to make changes in your life. Most people though (and I know this is true for me) are motivated in many different directions at once in many different areas. The level of motivation is the thing. I was actually motivated to change for a long time, but my motivations to stay the same were greater and so I did nothing. For change to begin we have to reach a tipping point at which the motivation to change is greater than the motivation to stay the same. I mentioned some of my motivators in a previous post.
MAN, AM I MOTIVATED!
But is motivation enough? Not really. Motivation to change is just that: an overwhelming desire to make a change. But “what” change and how will you know when you have made it? My hobby is birding (that’s bird watching, not hunting). I travel a couple times a year to various “birdy” spots around the country to seek new birds to add to my list. Let’s say one day I wake up and feel motivated to take a trip to go birding… now what? I want to do it, I have the drive and resources to do it, but I don’t have a plan to do it. There will be many aspects to putting together a doable plan, but the first thing I need is a goal.
Be a Goalie
My goals were clear to me. I wanted to lower my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers in order to get off medications. I also wanted to get my diabetes A1C test into the normal range. I had made previous progress on this and was actually off medications for it, but my level was still 6.2 and I thought I could do better. Finally, I wanted to lose enough weight to get back to a healthy BMI. According to the charts I would need to weigh in the 175-180 range for this to occur. Now I know BMI is not a very good indicator of where one should really be, but it gave me something to shoot for. Remember I started out at 307.
The Only Thing Better Than Setting a Goal, Is Reaching a Goal
So it has been almost exactly four months since I started on this journey, where am I at now? I am currently down to 238lbs. as of today’s weigh in. Yes folks t Read more
Working out with a hula hoop burns about as many calories per minute as step aerobics, boot camp, or very brisk walking, a new study shows.
For the study, researchers recruited 16 women between the ages of 16 and 59 and had them learn a 30-minute aerobics routine that uses weighted hula hoops twirled around the waist, arms, and legs.
After two practice sessions to get familiar with the moves, volunteers wore portable oxygen analyzers and heart rate monitors to record their exertion.
CALGARY — After passionate and sometimes rancourous debate, Calgary city council voted 10-3 Tuesday to eliminate fluoride from the city’s drinking water, rejecting pleas to send the matter to plebiscite or an expert panel.
To which I say “Really?” Why would we go to “experts” to tell us if it should be mandatory to consume fluoride? Regardless if its bad or good for us? If I want it in my body, I’ll go buy it. However, don’t force me to drink it by putting it in the main source of drinking water for our city.
To the 7 city council members that voted fluoride out of Calgary water… THANK YOU. It’s been a long Read more
Most of the questions about fat burners and weight loss pills I hear from clients and customers in our Calgary store could be summed up in a sentence something like this:
“What’s your view on Thermobol or other weight loss pills? They contain a hell of a lot of caffeine. Used as part of a healthy diet they are meant to work but I’m dubious.”
So lets go over the facts.
First and foremost, the Federal Trade Commission HAS sued several fat burner pill companies for false claims, false advertising and yes… falsifying the before and after pictures.
So it does happen. The befor

The Hill: Republicans’ Vicious Assault On A Woman’s Right To Choose
For our servicewomen around the world, H.R. 3 reminds them that they must roll the dice with whatever local, non-U.S.-affiliated medical facility they can find. For our federal employees, H.R. 3 reinforces the requirement that a family pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for an abortion, even when recommended by a doctor in the face of a severe fetal abnormality. … And for incest survivors, as soon as a young girl turns 18, she must pay on her own – even if she still lives in the same home as her abuser. As if all of this were not bad enough, H.R. 3
